Veneers can be excellent way to address isolated aesthetic concerns or create a whole new look. By applying a very thin shell that covers your existing tooth structure, stains, cracks, spaces, misalignment, and chipping issues can be easily solved and the length, width, color, and contour of each veneered tooth can all be modified to create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. Because there is a variety of veneer types and materials to choose from, you have several options to suit your personal needs and preferences.
The veneer process is usually completed over two to three visits. In the first visit, Dr. Shepherd will discuss your goals with you and create a strategy to achieve the look you want. With a plan in place, we will carefully prepare the teeth for the placement of the veneers if needed. Depending on the type of veneers you select, this preparation may be very minimal; ultra-thin veeners can be as thin as 0.3 mm - a little more than 1/100th of an inch - and may require no preparation at all. An impression will then be taken of your teeth and if your veneers will need to match the color of your existing natural teeth, we perform object color analysis using a spectrophotometer to ensure a perfect match. The impression and color data are then sent to our highly regarded laboratory, where your veneers will be custom-made to your exact specifications. While the new veneers are being manufactured, Dr. Shepherd will provide you with beautiful, temporary teeth to wear in the meantime.
Once the veneers are delivered to our office, we will confirm that they meet your expectations and bond them in place. We always make every effort to make sure that your veneers will not only look good, but feel and function just like your natural teeth to ensure you will enjoy your new smile for years to come.
